Sunset Valley Country Club News - September, 2010

On the Links

The Men’s Golf Association held their 8th Annual “Gentlemen’s Cup” on August 28th & 29th.   The “black hats” put up a good fight on the 2nd day but the “white hats” held them off and won this years title.  This year’s winners are: Jerry Gray, Neal Topp, Rod Anderson, Ray Schueneman, Richard Hughes, Vern Sizenbach, Brad Nelson, Doug Barton, Butch Ethington, and Bill Bonneau.  Thanks again to all those who participated.

Congratulations to Dave Olson (Championship), and Bill Bonneau (1st Flight) on winning their respective flights in the MGA Match Play Championship.  Dave was also this year Men’s Club Champion and Sr. Club Champion.  Congratulations Gentlemen!!!

The Ladies Golf Association will be hosting their Annual “STAGETTE” on September 21st.  This great event is open to all ladies who are members of Sunset Valley.  Pari-Mutual betting will be starting at 2pm with golf beginning at 3pm.  Please see the sign-up sheet located outside the locker room for details or contact me if you have any questions.

Anyone renting a golf cart must be 16 years of age.  No one under 16 may operate a riding cart.  Any damage that occurs while the cart is rented will be charged to the member.  Your cooperation with this is greatly appreciated.

We do have a few outings for the month of September.  Please check the calendar or call the pro shop for available tee times.

Through The Green

Cooler overnights should help the turf grass to rebuild roots lost during the unusually wet, then, hot summer.  Hopefully, damaged areas will be filling back in quickly.  We are repairing, aerating and over-seeding in the worst damaged areas.

Thank you to the many members who volunteered to help out with various projects this year.  Many showed up to help with tree damage clean-up; along with several ladies lead by Karen Gray who spent much time on the clubhouse plantings.  Special Thanks to Chris Olson who spent many days re-painting our tee signs.  They look like new!

This will be a big transition year for the maintenance staff.  Nick Weaver, who has been on staff for 6+ years, is now teaching.  He may continue to help out one day a week.  Our Assistant Superintendent, Jordan Marquis, who has been here for over 10 years (started in the bag-room for Bill Scarborough before moving to the course), is going on to a career in wildlife/parks management.  Jordan will be done working at Sunset at the end of this year.  Besides me and 1 part-time summer employee, they ARE the maintenance staff.  They will be hard to replace.

A reminder; please repair ball-marks on greens and replace viable divots.  This really helps us out with the appearance of the golf course.  Thank You,

Randy Harrach – Golf Course Superintendent

We will have fun dinner and drink specials that evening.

Sunset Terrace

September is here and Football season is finally upon us!  We look forward to a busy September with lots of nice golfing weather and some great dinner specials (including chicken fried chicken and prime rib).  The TV giveaway is right around the corner, and we will be having some food and drink specials for everyone to enjoy during the nights events.  If you want to qualify for the giveaway you need to do so quickly – just ask your server or give me a call and I can let you know where your food and beverage minimum stands.  Couples Bridge is starting up again this month, so if you are interested please let me know.  Also, we have the Ladies Stagette on the 21st, so make sure you sign up.  We look forward to seeing you this month at the Sunset Terrace!

One more note, the September dinner hours are 5pm-8pm, as always we do encourage you to make reservations.
